It’s easy to call “bad form” when you have a roof over your head.
not mine. just adding some beauty where needed.

Government support for private sector is not Socialism. We have little to fear when Gov partners with private sector to get things done the private sector could not do. These projects are NOT Socialism. They are, and have been for years, part of our History. Internet. Interstate. Space. Military. Water. Partnering is the only way these ideas come to fruition so we all benefit.
The real dark side is that we, taxpayers pay for the programs. But once done the private sector reaps the dollars. The Web was developed via R&D paid for by our tax dollars. We all benefit from this, but it’s the Amazon’s, Microsoft’s, Apples who become wealthy on the backs of taxpayers. Trucking is another case. The interstate was built for defense. But now trucking companies have use of this extensive road system maintained in part by our tax dollars.
This sort of partnership is Democratic Socialism. It works. Has worked and can work. It is NOT Socialist/Communist.
It should not be feared. What should be feared is when we are so scared of the word Socialism, we give in to that fear and add to the paralysis which has become prevalent.
I heard an interesting interview on NPR this morning.
Thesis was: it wasn’t that long ago collective info came to us from fewer sources than now. Though there was disagreement about who the info served our if it was fair and complete, in general it was delivered by organizations and people we knew and trusted. And relevant to this thesis, the fewer sources meant instead of creating division and anxiety, we had a common center around which to evolve, leading to hopefully better governing.
Now the world of information is fractured by the multitudes of platforms we use. This allows anyone too say anything from anywhere about whatever they choose.
Now as individuals we have to, if we can, assimilate this info, determine where truth lies, before we can integrate it into a coherent World view.
One result is we now have a cornucopia of views, a cacophony of voices shooting at us to believe them or get chastised.
The past, I believe was much the same as now, but now finding common belief has reduced us to arguing, instead of leading FOR us common folks.
Governing has fallen by the wayside as people argue about the multitudes of ideas, instead of looking at the common ground and answering those solutions.
Trump claims Men are at a time that is scary, dangerous. A man can be accused of assault true or not. Of course Trump is of the generation and class that sees others, esp. women, as use and throw away items. So of course they are scared, fearful cause their history carries same kind of actions they now have to deny. 40 yrs ago we all looked the other way. All except Men and Women who were sick and tired of playing a game that reduced folks with fear and intimidation.
But men have nothing to fear. Part of the answer is quite simple. As long as men treat others as equal and with respect we will be fine. Last I heard respect was not a limited quantity. Equality is part of this country’s blood.
The more difficult issue is patriarchy. I think men have to be parents. Not on weekends but changing diapers. Wiping up puke. Leaving work for apts. Men need to be caregivers and we need to allow them.
Men need to learn respect for others. And learn it from other men. Not only women.
Ultimately add long as we live under patriarchal rule we will suffer the consequences. As long as we play around the edges and pretend things can and do and have changed well keep getting what we deserve. What’s that?
A system where someone like Trump represents us.
Kavanaugh notes on hearing.
As our country grew, came to be united, there was primary concern, perhaps a carryover from the Monarchy we were escaping from, that today is rarely if ever discussed, in the terms used in the 18th century, particularly during the 1800 Election between Jefferson/Adams. To a man (of course all white males of the landed class) they feared the division of politics into a dual party system. I imagine, (though have not specifically researched yet) their fear was that if this occurred, their great democratic experiment would fail. (How Slavery was dealt with carries this curse as well). The single party system very quickly failed. Thus, we have a 2 party system which has slowly turned into a deep partisanship vehicle for favoritism, and to many, the Rich, and perhaps with Trump at the wheel, despotism. Then, we had the Jeffersonian common man theory vs. Adams, Monroe representative theory based on the idea only a few were capable of governing.
If it’s thought about we’re not told about either this split and/or the 2 theories of governing. We’re all one big happy country!!! Well, sort of, but not really.
Senate hearing for Kavanaugh clearly showed this split at the least to publicly displaying a nominee unable to control his emotions, respect for conflict, intractability on views when challenged, and to many, including myself, outright lying at worst, softening events at best.
What’s gone before is done. Based on his behavior, apart from his unpopular views, I do NOT want him confirmed. Would you want someone who behaved as he did to be responsible for YOUR life as the last resort in our system? I certainly hope not. And the things is, other choices are there! I’m not saying justices that support my views, that’s not what the Court is for (though it has become), but justices who are actually deliberative despite their own views.
Finally I will say, anyone who channels Trump behavior, in NO way deserves confirmation. Pages could be written about all this. Others can have at it. I’m just posting some thoughts that have filled my head, making me Mad, Sad, concerned. Do with them what you wish.
It appears he lied about this.
Questions his answer at the least. One definition means to intake substances via the anus.
Rape as power over and oppression of
War esp. shows use of Rape as victor’s spoils and instillation of fear
Drinking Addiction, Alcoholism
One point belying Kavanaugh’s “occasional” overdrinking is his “weak stomach” comment. If one drinks to puking and then keeps drinking, you are an Alcoholic and Addicted.
I don’t think believing this, would reassure me if Kavanaugh was looking at my case.
Break time. Pardon any errors. Mine alone.
Not sure where to begin here. but if there was ever a stream of late night consciousness, I am thinking this will be it.
Some people say intelligence is the ability to understand you know far less than you think you do. Some say it’s the ability to say, “I was wrong”.
Question: How do you know when a politician is lying? When they open their mouth.
Yesterday it came to me our current political snafu is due to our lack of understanding of how this is all to work. Our educational system has become beholden to business instead of providing an overall, Liberal Arts, education that teaches critical thinking instead of specific figures and facts to be regurgitated on a test proving intelligence, or your ability to hold onto info long enough to pass and thus show what a great system we have. Of course we fall down to the teens and twenties in the most relevant skills desired to day: Math, Science. In doing this we have taken public money, your taxes, and provided business, private enterprise with skills they contend they need and are not getting from new employees. Providing specific skills is NOT the role of Education. Education is critical to thriving businessess but it is the business task to take learned people and teach them skills to succeed.
Learning is a critical life long process. Throughout ones life so many different situations, some very different from what was originally considered, are faced. Without the ability to be elastic and re-jigger one’s brain, one’s faced with anxiety, fear, and possibly a stalemate in career choices. In an economy based on consumerism, wage/salary ceilings affect everyone.
Which in a late night roundabout way leads me to Trump/Kavanaugh and the fiasco currently unfolding. When I went to school govt., History, Social Studies, Geography were all stressed. We were taught HOW govt. was to work. Govt. was a good social institution serving to, at least publicly, assist the public good. For example, Brown vs Bd of Ed. This is a good example for today as Justice Warren was NOT chosen because he was for this. Eisenhower chose him for his judicial qualities. As it should be.
The Supreme Court is NOT the last resort for people cause it will give you what you think you deserve. It’s the last resort in order to keep our country fair and as equal as possible. No one decision is ever 100%. Warren knew the case was a time bomb given this countries sad record on Civil Rights. In the end, his understanding, and gift, was he was able to gather the court into a unanimous decision in favor of desegregation. The ruling, long awaited, and one of the most important and far ranging, leading to other Civil Rights movements, was unexpected.
This case highlights what the justice system should be about, at the least in the Supreme Court. It is not to ratify a justice cause they don’t believe in Abortion or a woman’s right to her own body. It’s not to say yes to what I believe or Trump believes. It’s to do their humanly best, despite all their faults and strengths, to keep things fair.
However, now that we have a president who has NO knowledge of the system, who thinks in his maniacal, narcissistic, I am the Greatest, give me your accolades please, serial lying fashion, he represents the failure of our system to get people to understand how and why we love our country.
This ignorance has given us a pack of Trumpistas. Solid, steady, and stupid. Despite his lack of Morals, disrespect for Women and those different than him in color, status, place, they follow there own narrow opinions.
Hence, we have a congress that is doing all it can to bow down to Trump and his agenda.
This agenda, and the conservative agenda specifically, keeps us from moving forward. The issue of Abortion, Religion, Civil Rights are constantly renewed by conservatives. This constant rehashing of a narrow range of issues already resolved are what keep us from moving to the future. Especially in Infrastructure. The longer we wait the more expenses keep thins from getting done. All we have to do is look at SS. Which brings me to:
A benefit of Multiple Myeloma, my own personal Cancer, is due to figure I have been able to read extensively, one of my favorite activities. When I was young I use to spend hours laying on the floors in the public library, pulling books of the shelves and reading for hours. Not that Houston summertime temps had anything to do with being in AC. This was before AC was standard in every building built as it is now. One had to be careful not to step in the bubbling asphalt which always indicated we lived in a place no person had a right to be in. Remember Houston is in a semi-tropical area of the country where mosquitoes, yellow fever, and other assorted tropical features were a part of the landscape until we took over!!!
Anyways, a corollary to the obsessive reading is the obsessive thinking and trying to figure out the world we inhabit. I have mainly been reading history, military and science, from the 1500s to current.
A question that has arisen in talking with others is if we can live moral lives while we live in a society that places consumers at the Apex of our culture. I don’t believe we can if the world is to be a fair and equitable place to live. Everything is a Moral decision. And we don’t think of these things as moral decisions. That can’t happen if the bottom l line is ultimately where we want to be. This isn’t a moral decision about what is most immediate to us. One has to take in the whole of the world. Do we have the right to take water from Mexico because we can? Do we have rights to oil in Nigeria because we use so much energy unfairly? Do I have the right to spend 100$ on a pair of shoes when 2/3 of the world is barefoot and gets diseases because of it? These are questions we don’t ask our even answer past out noses cause we’re “Superior”. Time and again throughout history we have used resources cause others have not seen for or needed to.
